Bentuk pohon dan daun


Buah ini banyak tumbuh dan berkembang didaerah tropis dan merupakan buah yang mempunyai biji-bijian dan pohon sukun yang pada umumnya memiliki batang besar serta lurus yang dapat mencapai 30 meter, akan tetapi didaerah pedesaan hanya mencapai belasan meter. Daun sukun ini memiliki lebar 20- 40 x 20-60 cm dengan bentuk tulang daun yang menyirip dan berwarna hijau tua dan mengkilap pada bagian atas serta kasar dan berbulu halus pada bagian bawah serta bertajuk renggang yang terdapat kuncup yang tertutupi daun penumpu besar berbentuk kerucut.

Dibandingkan dengan makanan lain buah sukun ini memiliki kandungan karbohidrat serta protein lebih tinggi dan rendah kalori, kandungan karbohidrat sukun ini setara dengan kandungan beras, sehingga sangat cocok untuk menu diet sehat.

Kandungan karbohidrat 


Buah sukun ini memiliki karbohidrat serta kandungan nutrisi lengkap seperti vitamin atau mineral serta mengandung zat fitokimia penting yang dibutuhkan oleh tubuh seperti kandungan asam amino esensi, methionin, isoleusin, lysine, vialin, histidine, serta tryptophan.

Pohon sukun ini berdasarakan sejarahnya berasal dari Polynesia yang menyebar ke Malaysia, sri lanka serta beberapa kepulauan pasifik salah satunya adalah Indonesia, dan buah sukun ini termasuk genus Artocarpus dan dalam family Moaccea seperti halnya pohon nangka atau cipedek.
