Budidaya Singkong: Modal Kecil, Untung Besar - Singkong atau ubi kayu adalah salah satu komoditas pangan yang memiliki nilai ekonomi tinggi di Indonesia. Tanaman ini dikenal tahan terhadap kondisi lingkungan yang kurang ideal, termasuk lahan kering, sehingga relatif mudah dibudidayakan. Tidak hanya sebagai makanan pokok alternatif, singkong juga menjadi bahan baku industri tepung tapioka, pakan ternak, hingga bioetanol.

Dengan permintaan pasar yang terus meningkat, budidaya singkong modal kecil dapat menjadi peluang usaha yang menjanjikan bagi petani maupun pemula di dunia pertanian.

Mengapa Budidaya Singkong Menguntungkan?

Ada beberapa alasan mengapa singkong dianggap memiliki prospek bisnis yang cerah:

  • Modal relatif kecil – Singkong bisa ditanam di lahan marginal dengan perawatan sederhana.
  • Tahan terhadap kekeringan – Cocok untuk daerah dengan curah hujan rendah.
  • Permintaan pasar stabil – Baik untuk konsumsi rumah tangga maupun kebutuhan industri.
  • Harga jual kompetitif – Produk olahan singkong seperti keripik, tepung mocaf, dan tape memiliki pasar yang luas.
  • Masa tanam fleksibel – Singkong dapat dipanen pada umur 8–12 bulan, sesuai kebutuhan pasar.

Teknik Budidaya Singkong: Langkah demi Langkah

1. Persiapan Lahan

Pilih lahan dengan tanah gembur, tidak tergenang air, dan memiliki pH 5,5–7,0.

Lakukan pengolahan tanah dengan membajak atau mencangkul hingga kedalaman 20–30 cm.

Buat guludan atau bedengan setinggi 20–30 cm agar singkong tumbuh optimal.

2. Pemilihan Bibit Unggul

Gunakan batang singkong sehat berumur 8–12 bulan dengan diameter minimal 2 cm.

Potong batang sepanjang 20–25 cm dengan 5–7 mata tunas.

Pilih varietas unggul sesuai tujuan, misalnya varietas gajah, adira 4, atau darul hidayah untuk hasil umbi yang besar.

3. Teknik Penanaman

Tanam bibit dengan posisi miring 45° atau tegak, kedalaman 5–10 cm.

Jarak tanam ideal adalah 100 x 80 cm atau 100 x 100 cm agar umbi berkembang maksimal.

Waktu tanam terbaik adalah awal musim hujan untuk memanfaatkan ketersediaan air alami.

4. Pemupukan

Gunakan pupuk organik (kompos atau pupuk kandang) 10–15 ton per hektar untuk memperbaiki struktur tanah.

Tambahkan pupuk anorganik seperti Urea, TSP/SP-36, dan KCl sesuai dosis anjuran.

Pupuk diberikan dua kali, yaitu saat tanam dan umur 3 bulan.

5. Perawatan Tanaman

Penyiangan: dilakukan setiap 1–2 bulan untuk mengendalikan gulma.

Pembumbunan: menimbun tanah di sekitar batang agar akar tidak terlihat.

Pemangkasan daun: bila terlalu rimbun, agar energi tanaman fokus ke pembentukan umbi.

Pengendalian hama dan penyakit: gunakan pestisida nabati atau rotasi tanaman untuk mencegah serangan tungau dan penyakit busuk akar.

6. Panen

Singkong biasanya dipanen saat berumur 8–12 bulan.

Ciri singkong siap panen: daun bagian bawah mulai menguning dan batang mengeras.

Panen dilakukan dengan mencabut batang, lalu menggali tanah di sekitar umbi agar tidak patah.

Analisis Usaha: Modal Kecil, Untung Besar

Sebagai ilustrasi sederhana:

  • Modal awal per hektar (bibit, pupuk, dan tenaga kerja): sekitar Rp 8–10 juta.
  • Hasil panen rata-rata: 25–30 ton singkong segar per hektar.
  • Harga jual singkong segar: Rp 1.500–2.000/kg.
  • Pendapatan kotor: Rp 37,5–60 juta per hektar.
  • Keuntungan bersih: bisa mencapai 3–5 kali lipat dari modal awal.

Jika diolah menjadi produk turunan seperti keripik, gaplek, atau tepung mocaf, keuntungan bisa lebih besar lagi karena nilai tambah produk meningkat.

Strategi Pemasaran Singkong

Agar usaha lebih menguntungkan, hasil panen singkong dapat dipasarkan dengan beberapa cara:

  • Menjual langsung ke pengepul atau pasar tradisional.
  • Menyediakan pasokan untuk pabrik tapioka atau pakan ternak.
  • Mengolah singkong menjadi produk makanan olahan seperti keripik, getuk, atau tape.
  • Menjual secara online melalui marketplace untuk produk turunan singkong.
